What kind of journal is Sciente?

Sciente is a multidisciplinary, open-access, and peer-reviewed journal of undergraduate research in Puerto Rico. Publication is online-only, each year, or depending on the volume on special issues. Papers in Sciente are selected based on technical and scientific merit.


Who can submit papers to Sciente?

Sciente accepts original research from any undergraduate students of any academic institution in Puerto Rico, in all disciplines of science, mathematics, medicine, technology and engineering.


Who will be reading Sciente?

Sciente will be available online for the general scientific community of Puerto Rico and elsewhere in this website. Sciente will be indexed by Google Scholar (scholar.google.com) and its content will be available to the international scientific community.


How much do I need to pay to publish in Sciente?

Sciente is an open access journal that will not charge for publication or for the access of published papers. This is a free service, offered by the University of Puerto Rico, designed to perpetuate and recognize the work of the future scientist.


How are the papers selected for publication?

Sciente is committed to a strict peer review of all the papers submitted for publication. All submissions will be first screened by the Associate Editors, who will reject or select the papers for the Reviewers. At least two Reviewers of the discipline will evaluate each paper for technical and scientific merit, and will recommend its rejection, acceptance or conditional acceptance.


How many papers will be selected for publication?

We anticipate to publish between 10 to 20 articles each volume. The most relevant articles for a multidisciplinary audience will be published. Depending on the number of selected papers, we might issue another edition to include additional papers.


What is the language of the journal?

Sciente is an English language journal, available to the international scientific community. Most of the papers will be in English but we also accept papers in Spanish. In any case, all the papers must include abstracts in both English and Spanish.


What is the meaning of the word Sciente?

Sciente is the Italian adjective for awareness and conscious. The word is also a derivation of the latin word scientia, meaning science.


Who is managing Sciente?

The University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo directs Sciente, in cooperation with all the University of Puerto Rico. Associate Editors and Reviewers are selected from any academic institution in Puerto Rico.


How I can contribute to Sciente?

First, motivate and tell students about this opportunity. Sciente will also accept review or perspectives articles by graduate students and faculty. Although these contributions are by invitation only, suggestions on topics and writers will be considered. Please feel free for any suggestions or comments (sciente.journal@gmail.com).
